WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • Collection kit. Mailed to you by MicrobiologyDX. Includes all materials needed to sanitarily collect your nasal sample.
  • Test Requisition Form. Mailed to you by MicrobiologyDX. This must be completed in its entirety and sent in with your specimen.
  • Mailing materials. Mailed to you by MicrobiologyDX. A preaddressed USPS mailer to ship your sample to the lab.
  • Postage. You must pay to send your sample to the lab. The cost is estimated to be around $8. It is recommended that you take the prepackaged sample to a USPS location to ensure proper postage and receive tracking information.
  • A partner. Though it is not necessary, it may be easier to have another person help you with your nasal swab.

COLLECTING YOUR SPECIMEN

  • Complete the Microbiology Dx test requisition. Be sure to include name, address, phone number, and date of collection.
  • Label the tube. Put on the supplied vinyl gloves. Remove TransPorter™ tube from the packaging then label with your name, date of birth and date collected.
  • Collect your sample. Remove the collection swab with blue top from package. Sit with your head held erect and chin parallel to the floor. Insert the swab 2 to 3 inches into the left or right nostril. Rotate the swab for 3-5 seconds. Using the same swab, repeat for the other nostril. (optional, not necessary)

  • Package the swab. (1) Remove the white cap from the TransPorter™ tube. (2) Insert the swab with blue top firmly into the TransPorter™ tube, ensuring that the tip of the swab is in contact with the material at the end of the tube. Make sure the blue cap is secured onto the TransPorter™ tube. (3) Open the zip-lock area of the biohazard bag, insert the TransPorter™ tube and seal the bag. (4) Place the completed requisition in the pocket of the biohazard bag. (5) Place the biohazard bag with specimen and requisition into the white bubblewrap envelope and seal.
  • Mail the package. Place the bubblewrap envelope in the preaddressed USPS Priority mailer and seal. You will need to supply postage. It is recommended that you take the completed package to a USPS location to ensure proper postage and receive tracking information.
